All of these artists books are hand bound in neutral bookcloth and are either made in concertina format or or as boxed book works that open out spatially onto a flat surface.
Alders is a concertina book made with six drawings in ink and soluble graphite. They are about the pain of growth in springtime and are a response to walking in alder groves in the Karelian forest.
A similar format, Bathe These Eyes one Last Time comprises six ink and graphite drawings with screenprinted text. The text relates to the final blaze of autumn colour in the Trossachs in the Scottish Highlands.
Beauty's own Nature Knows No Loss
is a book from the same series with screenprinted text, ink and graphite.
Kalevala Cantos is a series of three boxed books of eight etchings and 1 zinc etching plate that opens out into a 1-metre square piece. The text is an excerpt from the Finnish epic poem The Kalevala, about the creation myth and is etched in the pattern of tree rings to form a visual poem. Book 1 is text and embossed text, Book 2 is text and image and Book 3 is pure emboss. Go to Kalevala prints on the home page menu for individual editions of prints from the boxed book series.
