These installation shots from Koli Environmental Art Festival 2014 are of an artwork made in the forest at Koli, North Karelia, Finland. The work titled 'Why is the birch tree left unfelled?' is taken from Canto II of epic poem The Kalevala. In this work I have returned text from the Kalevala to the environment where the verses come from. For this project I wrapped 7 birch trees in birch bark inscribed with text from Canto II of the Kalevala in Finnish and English, as well as text from my own experiences in the forest.
